Andropause - Male Menopause That Every Man Goes Through!

Males go through menopause too! This is known as andropause. Some of you might be shocked to learn this; some might even refuse to believe it. But, it’s the truth established by medical science. And gradually, it’s being accepted and diagnosed by doctors across the world.

Andropause, or male menopause, is marked by a decline in the level of the testosterone hormone in the body. This is the same hormone that’s associated with the masculinity of men. The hormone starts depleting after 40 years of age.

Today, America has around 25 million males aged between 40 and 55 who are going through andropause. The symptoms of menopause affect men differently. Some of them are more sensitive to the changes happening inside their body and mind.

Andropause Symptoms

• Reduced sex drive
• Reduced muscle mass
• Fatigue
• Increase in body fat
• Sleeping problems
• Night sweats
• Osteoporosis
• Depression
• Impotence

During this transitional phase of life, you may undergo a series of physical, psychological, hormonal, social, and sexual changes that may hinder with your daily activities. You might wonder about what’s happening to you. But, it’s nothing to worry about, guys; nature’s just taking its course. Yeah, but you need to take extra care of your physical and mental health now.

Andropause Effect

Although the symptoms of male menopause are similar to that of the female one, there’s one difference that makes andropause no less than a menace. The decline in the level of testosterone can start from as young an age as 35. Initially, it dwindles at a slower rate – about 1-1.5 percent every year. This is very unlike the female menopause where the estrogen levels decline abruptly, thus, demarcating a phase of pre-menopause and post-menopause.

So, a man of 35 years of age might also want to be left alone or undergo a surge of depression. Many a times, erection problems, decreased interest in sex, irritable nature, and tiredness may hit the male population right in the very 30s.

Typically, men count their success through the number of accomplishments and possessions. As male menopause sets in, males begin to feel vulnerable and incapable. So, don’t be surprised to hear from your man that he feels useless now! You may also notice a change in his personality. From being ambitious, hyperactive, passionate in love, caring, and social, your man may become sedentary, less romantic, irritable, and secluded. But, hey, do not think of dumping him for this! Blame his hormones, not him!

Handling Andropause Through Testosterone Replacement

Rather than fighting with your man for his changed behavior, you need to understand him. A holistic approach is required to deal with the symptoms of andropause. You need to integrate various therapies like testosterone replacement, herbal therapy, psychotherapy, and a regular diet and exercise regime.

Testosterone replacement therapy is beneficial for men suffering from loss of bone density that may result in decreased height and osteoporosis, and for those suffering from sexual dysfunction that doesn’t improve through Viagra and other such remedies. Men diagnosed with cancer are also good candidates for this therapy. They need to maintain body muscle and composition.

Risks associated with this therapy include liver toxicity, stroke, and development of breasts. In some men, testosterone replacement may cease sperm production. Ironical, isn’t it?

Abandoning your man or leaving him to face his condition all by himself is not the way to deal with andropause. This is the time when he requires your love, care, and understanding the most. Remember ladies, you’re gonna pass through the same phase too. So, it’s time to strengthen your bond and walk hand in hand through each other’s menopauses!
