The belief that acne diet has no relationship to acne occurrence has been proven wrong. It seems now that the diet does influence the frequency and severity of condition. Researchers have finally established a solid link between diet and the development of acne. They have proved that a link exists between glucose and insulin levels that cause skin changes. The glycemic index is increasingly believed to be the cause of severity in acne cases. Evidence also proves that a diet rich in proteins improves the skin condition.
The research does not have evidence to prove that a healthy diet would cure acne but it can certainly prevent the pimples from occurring.
Healthy Acne Diet
A healthy diet for acne prevention should include whole grains, fresh fruits, vegetables and lean protein. A high protein diet would lead to a decrease in production of enzyme causing increased levels of oil production. Oil production can be controlled and thereby one can control the occurrence of acne. Drinking of green tea and herbal teas has been found to be very relieving and it also helps in preventing acne formation. These teas have anti oxidants which strengthen the immune system and also improve the general health condition. Foods containing zinc and Vitamin A have been found to be very useful. Zinc is present in fishes and vitamin A in fruits and vegetables.
Foods To Avoid
Foods containing sugar, soda, oil should be avoided as much as possible. Saturated and trans fats are present in oil that we consume with food and these contribute towards acne development. Animal products like meat, poultry and dairy are rich in saturated fats. The oil required by the body should be supplied in the form of fish, flaxseed oil and hemp seed oil.
Some people consider that eating chocolates and candy in excess can lead to outbreaks of acne. This could be because there is a high percentage of saturated fat in chocolates. This relationship between chocolates and acne lacks research backing but individual experience is the tutor here. Another norm without any scientific backing is that excessive eating causes acne. Some do believe that over eating leads to increased hormone levels, followed by hormonal imbalance and acne eruptions.
There have been cases where increased level of iodine in the diet is seen to be the cause of pimples and other eruptions on the face and body. Salty snacks like chips and wafers contain high iodine content and oil too. These should be avoided altogether or restricted to minimum portions to keep away from blemishes.

Certain foods can cause these eruptions while others do not. Again, this is specific to individuals. There is no general rule that co-relates food and presence of acne.
