Acne is a skin condition characterized by red pimples. These can be seen in the children when they are in their adolescent stage. They are, to a large extent, controlled by hormonal changes, which occur in young men and women. The sebaceous glands buried deep in the skin secrete an oily substance called sebum that lubricates the skin and prevents it from drying out. The flow of sebum increases at puberty, and the skin becomes warm. Excess sebum flows to the surface of the skin and mixes with dirt and sweat, causing acne. The trouble is that once the pimple has been tampered, the scar gets deeper. Otherwise, if the scar is only due to pimple itself, it fades quite fast.
For acne prevention, clean the face with a soap-free face wash at least three times a day or wipe with an astringent-dipped swab, whenever you return from an outdoor visit. Pat with a towel gently and apply an oil-free moisturizer. Harsh weather and pollution makes the skin condition worse. So, keep your face clean. Use an exfoliator or glycolic acid to prevent food for the bacteria that cause pimples.
Acne treatments need regular care. A healthy diet will benefit your skin. Cut down on tea, caffeine, sugar, and refined carbohydrates. These will activate the hormones, which can produce more oil by the sebaceous glands. Add more fruits, nuts, juices, and other healthy treats to your daily diet. Applying a mixture of honey and aloe vera on the face will also help protect the skin from pollution and dirt.
Water works wonder as a skin treatment. It will filter the blood in the form of perspiration. So, drink 8–10 glasses of water everyday. The immune system needs energy to do its work including the work of protecting your skin from acne. So, a good sleep is also necessary, at least 6–8 hours at night. So here’s wishing you a blemish-free skin!
