A teenage girl, within the age span of 13 to 19, carrying a baby is referred to teenage pregnancy. This is the consummative age when every girl experiences her first period and reaches the stage of ovulation. A girl of this age is fertile enough to carry and nurture a fetus, if she indulges into a sexual intercourse.

A pregnant teenager not only faces the traumas imposed by societal discrimination, but, also fights with her own inner turbulence. At this stressful hour she is in a dire need of a proper medical attention.
Here’s a lowdown on the list of the common medical problems faced by the young mother and tips to take care of her all this while.

Nutritional Inadequacy: The cases of pre-mature babies are common among teenage moms. Often after the delivery, the child suffers from one or the other nutritional inadequacy which considerably reduces the chances of survival of the baby. You would notice that these young pregnant females often complaint of severe back pain right at the onset of their first trimester. This happens due to their poor eating habits leading to nutritional deficiencies. Thus, it is absolutely imperative for the mother to be healthy and fit to give birth to a healthy baby.

Underdeveloped Pelvis: Another risk factor in early age pregnancies is the underdeveloped pelvis, especially if the mom is a young 13 or 14 year old girl. In such cases, the young mother often experiences severe lower back pain and faces difficulties during the child birth. In poor countries where medical attention does not reach the common man, chances of maternal death, infant mortality are higher.

The only way to discourage teenage pregnancy is through means of spreading sex education. It is important to make it a part of the school curriculum to spread it among children. Also, parents have a great responsibility of opening a channel of communication on sex and related issues with their growing kids.
