High Blood Pressure – Increased Risk For Stroke & Diabetes

Heart is the most complicated  and sensitive organ in the human body. The main function of the heart is to pump blood and send it to other vital organs of the body. The arteries are the strong muscle tubes in the human body. The blood goes through these arteries from the pumping heart to all other organs and tissues of the body. When there is high tension or high pressure in these arteries, this condition is medically referred to as high blood pressure. High blood pressure is often referred to as hypertension.

Heart attack and stroke are all related to heart disease. Heart attack is a condition that arises due to insufficient supply of oxygen to the heart muscle. Symptoms associated with heart attack include feeling pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the center of the chest. Stroke is when the blood flow to the brain stops, brain cells begins to die and one would experience a brain stroke. When a stroke occurs, the following symptoms experienced sudden feeling of numbness or weakness in the face, arms or leg, feeling confused and having trouble speaking or understanding speech, Sudden severe headache.

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease. It is also called as Juvenile onset diabetes and Insulin-dependent diabetes. This ailment affects a greater proportion of children than adults. It is an autoimmune disease. In other words, the immune system considers the beta cells of the pancreas as a foreign body and destroys them. Beta cells are responsible for producing the hormone insulin. Insulin enables the cells of the body to take in the glucose from the bloodstream and utilize it for various activities. The destruction of the beta cells means that either the production of insulin stops completely or is produced in minimal quantities. This results in high glucose levels in the blood.
