There is a pre conceived notion that acne pops up by the intake of greasy foods, but the doctors shy from this concept. You must be wondering what relation your diet has with acne. Though oily food does not boost the secretion from the sebaceous/oil glands, still there are a few precautions which must be followed in your diet. You may term it as ‘Acne diet’.
Cut Down on Iodine: There is no ideal diet for acne but one must try to stay away from an excess of iodine. Excess iodine gets evaporated from your skin pores and causes inflammation and irritation. So you must cut down on foods and medicines with iodine content. It is advised to cut down on foods like iodized salt, beef, broccoli, cauliflower, chips and other such iodine rich food items.
Include fresh fruits and vegetables: Acne diet helps you to be on the safer side if you have a tendency to get those ugly spots. Eating in moderation will help you stay clean and clear of pimples. If your diet is combined with regular exercising, then it will give better results. Fresh fruits and vegetables keep your skin moist and supple, discouraging the popping of acne. Fruit and vegetable juices are a good source of vitamins which are essential for the skin. Include cucumber and tomato salads in your diet to hydrate your skin.
Vitamin A Magic: Studies say that people with acne tend to have lower levels of Vitamin A; hence they should consume vitamin A rich food. When raw fish, liver oil, carrots and apricots are consumed, they curb pimples and provide nutrition to the skin.
Wonders Of Vitamin B: Foods like fish, whole wheat grain, milk, meats that are rich in vitamin B-2 help in alleviating stress, one of the major reasons of acne. Vitamin B-3 helps in the circulation of blood and correcting cholesterol levels. It is largely found in mushrooms, meat, green vegetables, eggs and milk.
Vitamin E For Skin: It is an active antioxidant and helps fight against free radicals which tend to damage the by-products of the body’s metabolism. Vitamin E rich foods are almonds, peanuts, sunflower and vegetable oils.
Zinc Protection: It is required in traces in the body for protection of the immune system. Zinc is present in eggs, nuts and whole grains.
An acne diet must be followed to have clear skin. But in order to make up for the deficiencies, one must not opt for nutrient supplements containing iodine as they escalate blemishes. Apart from the diet, one must not wash the face with mineral/tap water as they contain excessive minerals and chloride which dehydrate the skin, causing acne. These precautions when taken not only help you get rid of acne but also bestow you with a refreshed skin.
